Dave Watson: First Person to Ski Down K2

Dave Watson: First Person to Ski Down K2

On Aug 4, 2009, Dave Watson became the first person in history to ski down K2.

K2, a mountain that is widely recognized as "the most difficult mountain on Earth" is the world's second tallest mountain, only slightly shorter than Mt. Everest. K2 is also known as the "Savage Mountain" and "Killer Mountain" for it's notorious reputation of extreme terrain, unpredictable weather and the fact that 1 in 4 people who summit will die on the way down.

Despite K2's brutal reputation and statistics, Dave felt that his ability and experience would allow him to climb up and ski down the mountain safely. This proved to be true.

The triumphs on K2 were built upon the groundwork laid over many years. Dave's mental integrity in the face of extreme physical challenge gave him the experience to realize his dreams in the Karakorum. This mental and physical ability was developed over 14 years of rock and ice climbing and 24 years of skiing.

In 2010 Dave will again serve as head of ski operations for Ski Himalaya in Kashmir, India. The operation offers the only skiing in the Himalayas serving international clients seeking the ultimate in powder skiing.
